Extra Curricular Activities
After school activities at Treloar School
For most students lessons finish at 3.35pm. But from 4.10pm to 4.50pm there are all sorts of activities going on for students to do including different sporting activities such as: boccia, swimming, table cricket and new age kurling.
Sport is an important part of life at Treloar’s and although it doesn’t have to be competitive, many of our students and former students compete nationally and internationally – up to Paralympic level
“In sport, individuals reach almost unexpected goals, including being talent spotted” (Ofsted)
Other after school activities include:
Music and drama
We put on a large production once every 2 years, for students to show off their talents to friends, parents, local people and other supporters during evening performances
Student interests
Activities based on the interests of students such as wheelchair salsa, football fans, nature club and music.
Evening activities
After supper there are also many activities for students to take part in:
- Tuesday night youth club with the ever popular disco
- Wednesday night sport club -, including wheelchair football, hockey
At other times there are opportunities to be involved in fundraising activities for other good causes including Children in Need, Comic Relief and Jeans for Genes Day.
We offer activities to suit all interests and abilities – our range has been praised by Ofsted, and our houses and grounds are designed to be stimulating places to enjoy for students of all abilities, either alone or with friends.
"There is lots of space here and I get to ride my trike"
Off-site experiences
As well as everything on offer on-site, we also arrange activities outside – everything from curriculum excursions to the theatre, galleries or exhibitions, to trips to the cinema, football or ice hockey, to Saturday shopping in Alton or further afield. If it’s someone’s birthday, our carers and occupational therapists often help students arrange an evening out for a special treat.
We’re also lucky to have links with other organisations offering unique experiences. Every other year, students have the chance to appear on stage at the Glaziers’ Hall in London in partnership with another local school.
Treloar students have been visiting the Churchtown Farm Field Centre, between Bodmin and Fowey, for over 20 years. Here they can take part in a wide range of outdoor challenges including: pond-dipping, sailing, abseiling, rope climbing, studying wildlife, and orienteering.
"Going to Cornwall is just the best thing we have ever done"
Residential sports trips
Every year, a number of our students qualify to compete in national championships in a variety of sports. These weekend trips take us to different locations throughout the UK.
We also regularly attend events at the home of Disability Sport, Stoke Mandeville.
