Extra Curricular Activities at Treloar's College

There’s plenty going on

Whether you board with us, or study as a day student, there’s a lot to do at Treloar’s apart from studying, both in the evenings and at weekends.

  • Weekend trips to the cinema or ten-pin bowling, for example. Students and residential support staff often arrange these and we encourage students to take the lead
  • Swimming, wheelchair basketball and hockey, boccia, canoeing, archery, athletics, table tennis, snooker and pool, cycling and fitness training are all on offer
  • Treloar clubs: drama, photography, film, swimming, and a chance to work on the College radio station!
  • Live bands, karaoke nights and discos are all available on-site

Venturing further afield

Treloar College is on the edge of Alton, a small market town which, thanks to our 100 years presence, is more wheelchair-friendly than most. It’s close enough for students to be able to go there independently – providing you’ve convinced the OT team that you’re safe and sensible.

You can go shopping, to the cinema, for a pizza or, if you’re over 18, to the pub. There’s also a group that meets on a Wednesday evening at Alton Maltings Centre to explore faith issues. If you prefer not to go into town on your own, there’s usually a Treloar’s shuttle bus on Saturdays. Residential support staff will accompany you if they can.

If you’re studying at nearby Alton College for part or all of your time, Treloar’s transport is available throughout the day to get you to and from the campus.

Even further afield

Farnham, Basingstoke, Woking and Guildford are all within easy reach, and we arrange regular trips, for both shopping and recreation. There’s a mainline station in Alton (on the Waterloo line), and if you want to get used to using public transport, this is a good journey to start on.

Further still…

If you’re doing Travel & Tourism, Photography, Art & Design or Sport & Leisure, you’ll get to travel to exhibitions and photo-shoot locations as part of your studies. Students competing in sports activities may attend off-site fixtures, as well.

There are even opportunities to travel abroad – in 2009 seven of our students went on a ski trip funded by parents.
