Functional Skills at Treloar College

The building blocks for learning

Functional Skills are the key building blocks for learning, made up of English, Maths and ICT.

We all use them to differing degrees in different situations, and sometimes just improving a little bit in one area can make a big difference to your options for the future.

Treloar College offers a range of opportunities to develop these skills, and we’ve even won a DfES Pathfinder Award for our work in this area.

Once you have had your assessment, you can work on your Functional Skills in a variety of ways. We offer:

  • Lessons in English, Maths and ICT
  • Workshops or one-to-one support focused on individual skills
  • Additional support in the classroom or Learning Resource Centre
  • Integrated courses where English, Maths and ICT are linked with your main areas of study
  • A range of practical activities to help you develop Functional Skills within the College and the local community
  • English as a second language
  • Dyslexia screening and support
