Alton's Victorian cricketers choose Treloar's
7 February 2012
Treloar’s has been chosen as the charity to be supported by the Alton Victorian Cricket Tournament in 2012.
The popular tournament is held annually in Alton and each year a different local charity is selected to benefit from the funds raised, a sum usually amounting to several thousand pounds.
This year, the cricket tournament will be helping Treloar’s in its work providing education, specialist services, independence training and equipment for its students with complex disabilities and learning difficulties, something the charity has been doing for more than 100 years.
Head of community events at Treloar’s Jon Colville said: “It is a thrill to have been chosen as the charity for this unique event.
“We are looking forward very much to working with the cricket committee and hope to make the event a really great day out with activities for all the family.”
Nine teams made up of members of local organisations will take part in the tournament, with all players wearing Victorian dress. And as well as the cricket there will be stalls, sideshows, rides and entertainment to make it a real day out.
Head of publicity for Alton Victorian Cricket Chris Webborn said: “It is always so difficult to choose a charity to support from all the very many worthy causes that apply to us each year, but we are so pleased to be able to support Treloar’s as they do such wonderful work for the young people in their care.”
The tournament, which is supported by Alton Town Council, Molson Coors, Warren Powell Richards, This is Alton magazine and Domino’s Pizza, takes place at The Butts on June 24, starting at 10am.
