Chefs lock spoons in Great Treloar's baking contest
3 February 2012
Treloar’s is giving cake lovers the chance to enjoy one of their favourite foods while supporting the local charity.
The Great Treloar’s Bake Off is coming to Bentley on March 29 when two top chefs from the area will battle it out to see who makes the tastiest cakes.
Going head to head against the clock will be Hannah Westcott from Newlyn’s Cookery School in Odiham and Marion Thomas from home cookery demonstration company The Pampered Chef.
Guests are sure to be in for an entertaining afternoon as both chefs intend to go all out to take away the baking crown.
Newlyn’s Hannah Westcott said: “I’m really looking forward to the event as it is supporting such a great local charity.
“But, although I want to win, I really hope the event will encourage more people to have a go at baking instead of buying products ready-made – and I also hope we will be able to give them just a few ideas they can try at home.”
Marion Thomas of Pampered Chef added: "This is an excellent fun and entertaining way to help raise vital funds and I am really excited to be involved. It will be a fantastic challenge for Pampered Chef being up against Newlyn's Cookery School in the Bake Off - no pressure then!"
During the afternoon, guests will also enjoy a delicious traditional tea (with champagne optional) and anyone who fancies their own baking chances can take their pre-baked cakes along for judging in the guests’ competition.
There will also be great shopping opportunities as a number of businesses will be there on the day, all of whom have donated some fantastic prizes for the raffle and silent auction that will take place during the event.
Emma Willshire, Treloar’s events fundraiser, said: “We at Treloar’s are excited to be holding our first Bake Off competition with the chefs at Newlyn’s Cookery School and The Pampered Chef and we’re calling for cake fans to join us for what should be a really enjoyable afternoon.
“As well as being lots of fun, it’s also a fantastic way to raise funds for Treloar’s. We are really looking forward to the event and the chefs say they can’t wait to put their culinary skills to the test.
“And when the competition is over, guests will have the opportunity to sample the chefs’ masterpieces to see if they agree with the judges’ decision!”
All proceeds from the day will go to Treloar’s in Alton, which provides education, care and support for young people with complex disabilities and learning difficulties.
Tickets cost £30 or £35 with champagne and the Bake Off starts at 1pm.
