How to inlcude Treloar's in your will

Remember Treloar's in your will and leave a lasting legacy

How to leave a legacy gift

We know that family is a priority, however, after making provision for family and friends, there are many ways in which you can support Treloar's in your Will.

A legacy can be:

· A cash sum or a specific item, such as a piece of jewellery, some shares or property (pecuniary or specific legacy)
· A residual gift, which is a percentage or all of the amount left over after all other gifts and expenses have been paid (residuary legacy)

You can add specific wording directly to your Will detailing your gift, or you can update your current Will using a Codicil. Adding a codicil means there's no need to change the terms of your current Will; it simply adds a new instruction.

Adding specific wording directly to your Will

Below are examples of the wording to include in your Will;

Example for a Specific Gift

"I bequeath to Treloar Trust of Upper Froyle, Alton, Hampshire GU34 4JX, Charity Registration Number 1092857, the sum of £(amount in words) for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors"

Example for a Residual Gift

"I bequeath to Treloar Trust of Upper Froyle, Alton, Hampshire GU34 4JX, Charity Registration Number 1092857, (proportion of residue, for example, the whole/one half/two-thirds) of my residuary estate for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors"

Example Codicils

Follow the links for examples of a Codicil leaving a Specific Gift and a Codicil leaving a Residual Gift. However, as we are not professional legal advisers, we would recommend that you consult a qualified solicitor. You may find it helpful to print out the relevant specific wording or the example Codicil form to show to your solicitor.

Simple rules for Codicils

· Do not cross out or write new instructions into your current Will as changes will not be valid
· As with Wills, two people need to witness you signing and dating the Codicil
· Keep the Codicil with your current Will in a safe place
· Send or give a copy of the Will and Codicil to your Executor, with a note detailing where the  original is held
