Independence and mobility
Helping our students get where they want to go

Independence and mobility are key words at Treloar’s. Our aim is that every young person can be as independent and mobile as possible. With the right help and support, powered wheelchairs can give students the potential to go where they want without supervision.
But the real world poses many challenges - even for modern wheelchairs. Uneven pavements, cobbled high streets, high kerbs and zebra crossings are just a few of the many hurdles students face.
Wheelchair Driving Track
Our wheelchair driving track will help students develop their driving skills over a variety of challenging obstacles in a safe environment. This is an innovative and exciting project but comes at a price!
The track will cost us £174,558. But we are determined to succeed so that our students can achieve the independence they deserve.
IMPact - Independence Mobility Project
Independent mobility is a freedom most of us take for granted. But 90% of our students need mobility aids to get around. The NHS provides wheelchairs but not always the most appropriate one. IMPact, our wheelchair fund, gives our students the chance of real freedom, but at a cost of £50,000 a year.
The IMPact Programme:
- Provides grants of £500-£3,000 to help students buy the right wheelchair
- Advises on how to raise the rest of the money they need
- Works with other charities that provide mobility aid funding for the most appropriate chair
- Helps students whose mobility needs have changed
- Funds electronic technology to link wheelchair, PC and communication aid controls, so that students with limited movement can operate all equipment from one control
An electric wheelchair costs between £4,000 and £15,000.
You can make a real difference by making a donation, doing some fundraising or simply raising awareness of this important issue. To find out how, please call us on 01420 547 477 or email fundraising@treloar.org.uk
Change a young person’s life by helping them get the right wheelchair.
