Helping with your mobility
When you first arrive at Treloar’s, you’ll be assessed by one of our physiotherapists. They’ll be working to ensure you can achieve your full potential in terms of movement and mobility, so you can participate fully in your education and your social life.
Your physio plan
You’ll have your own physio plan, which is individual to you. We’ll create this with you, and your physio will also involve your residential support staff, if appropriate. Physio includes exercises, stretches, treatment and pain relief, and takes places individually or in groups. You might also have physio in the hydrotherapy pool or take part in sessions involving dance or horse-riding.
When you leave Treloar's, you should have the confidence to live in an environment
where physio is not routinely available, and be able to develop an exercise programme that you can maintain on your own.
Clinics and appointments
The physiotherapy team:
- is on-call 24-hours a day, mainly for respiratory support
- runs a drop in 'pain clinic', which you might find useful if your muscles spasm a lot, or you need to stretch after sitting in class all morning
- liaises with the visiting orthotist, who provides specialist equipment such as boots, splints and walking aids, in his weekly clinic
- takes the lead in post-operative therapy for students once they return to Treloar College after surgery.
