Occupational Therapy
Day to day living made easier
Occupational Therapy is available to all our students, and our occupational therapists (OTs) are involved in every aspect of your life at College. They’ll work with you to ensure you:
• can eat, drink, sleep, wash, shower and use the toilet safely and with dignity
• are mobile and can participate fully in lessons and activities
• can access local community and public transport
• get help with thinking about life beyond College and your future plans.
Initial assessment
When you arrive, your OT’s first job will be to get a good idea of your ability and experience in different settings. This adds to the information we have from your application form and helps us to build up a picture of what skills you might want to develop.
Our first objective is to ensure you can move around the College under your own steam, and work effectively in class. It is also important that those working with you know about the equipment you use and know how to help you be as effective and independent as possible.
Greater independence
OTs play a big part in our Independent Living Skills. They’ll work with you on a number of goals relating to greater independence, particularly on your domestic and community skills. Helping you understand what is a realistic goal and what help you might need in the future is an important part of this.
