Pooling our resources
At Treloar’s, we’ve got many years’ experience working with students with disabilities. But we are continually striving to develop our expertise.
We are also keen to learn from other organisations, and to share ideas and resources, so we can offer even greater benefits to our students, and young people with disabilities generally.
For example:
- We now have a partnership with nearby Alton College which means some of our A level students study there.
- We’ve developed Specialist Learning Assessments for learners with disabilities who are applying to study in mainstream colleges.
- We are working on a Beacon Innovative Project, in partnership with organisations in Surrey and Hampshire, to share our expertise in sport, leisure and performing arts.
- In collaboration with the Learning and Skills Council RARPA is now a fully integrated part of everything we do at Treloar’s.
- Inline with sharing good practice we run a number of Professional Visitors' Days which offer colleagues an opportunity to see our work at first hand and to discuss in more detail areas of common interest.
- Employer Engagement: working ways – aims to create ‘best practise’ for effective partnerships with employers and learners. A set of guidelines will be offered to employers so they can see how they can offer effective work related learning experiences for learners.
- We have also been fortunate to receive funding to develop our use of technology and projects currently underway are:
o The development of an accessible Virtual Learning Environment using a product called Moodle
o Development of a Management Information System (MIS) for tracking student achievement. - We also contribute to many national forums including the Association of National Specialist Colleges, the National Further Education ICT Agenda, and the Karten Network.
