Helping our students express themselves

Fundraising helps our students explore the performing arts. From a world where self-expression is so often hampered by physical disability the liberating effect of these creative challenges has to be seen to be believed.

Drama, Music, Art and more…

Our drama group is always popular and extremely active. A term never passes without some form of stage production and creative event.

Our concert teams have played around the UK with students from mainstream schools and the National Youth Orchestra. Treloar students take part in five- day workshops with the UK’s best young musicians to learn about musical composition, performance and directing. Musicians regularly visit Treloar’s, along with luminaries such as Brian Irvine, composer in residence to the Ulster Orchestra, Belfast and Welsh National Operas.

“I was really amazed by the NYO’s performance of my song ‘Fanfare for a Battle’. It was incredible to hear it on real instruments and played so beautifully. All the members of the orchestra were very friendly and encouraging.”
Lucy, Treloar School student

The students take part in a number of innovative projects. One initiative involved turning their painting of a journey into a musical composition with help from the NYO.

Every March, Treloar College celebrates Arts Week. Events have included workshops on recycled robots, time capsules, stage make-up, storytelling, willow weaving, encaustic art and wheelchair dance. Musical genres range from jazz to flute & guitar duos; fiddlers to Ghanaian drumming - and even Bagpipe Bands! Displays of students’ textile work are also featured and the week is rounded off with a performing arts group production.

We have to raise £7,000 to fund our annual College arts week; £10,000 a year for music therapy and £5,000 for our artist in residence.

Please help us give our students a chance to express themselves. Call us on 01420 547 477 or email fundraising@treloar.org.uk to find out how.
