Boarding Houses

Our boarding houses are divided into a number of smaller units; the junior ones house up to 16 students each and the senior up to 32. Keeping each unit small gives staff and students the opportunity to get to know each other well – and enables us to monitor our students’ physical and psychological wellbeing more easily.

All units are furnished with the latest equipment to enable students to take an increasing amount of responsibility for their own health and hygiene, and to become as independent as possible.

As they get older, students move into senior accommodation, where they either share with a friend or have their own room.

Practical and Emotional Support

Each boarding house has its own care manager and dedicated care co-ordinators who are responsible for the day-to-day welfare of students. We employ almost 100 care staff, including waking night house-parents. Our staff are constantly on hand to provide all the practical and emotional support our young people may need.

Every child (including day students) is allocated to a house where they go for snacks and care routines at break time - this provides continuity with staff and helps create a sense of belonging for all the children.

Because of their disabilities, some students may require assistance with intimate physical care. Our training is of the highest standard and the utmost pains are taken to respect students’ dignity, privacy and self-esteem at all times.

This ethos of dignity and respect has been recognised and acknowledged by OFSTED, and also by the local authority social service departments who visit us every year to inspect the quality of our care.
