Drama gives food for thought
27 January 2012

A group of drama students from Winchester University have been working with Treloar’s students to encourage creative thinking and dramatic interaction.
The students from class 8/9H have taken part in several sessions, which have proved interesting and lots of fun.
Each session started with a ‘warm up’, such as a game, to get everyone in the mood and talking, before moving on to the generation of ideas, which came from individuals or from the class as a whole. The students then worked together to create their own interpretation of the ideas through drama.
One of the ideas suggested led to a drama piece about children who pick litter in India to earn a living. The group started by discussing how this way of life felt for the children themselves and then considered the employers’ viewpoint. The students were able to turn the thoughts coming out of their discussion into a scene, which they then enacted.
