Treloar College Curriculum
Our students choose Treloar College for many reasons. Our breadth of learning opportunities, facilities and experience makes us a great choice for young people with physical disabilities. We concentrate on the whole person – working with you as an individual to create a learning plan to suit you, your abilities and your dreams for the future.
Choosing a programme
There are a wide range of programmes to choose from. We are also very flexible, we will do our best to help anyone with a particular interest, or who wants to try something new. We take time at interviews to discuss all your options – and give you the opportunity to look round all the departments.
Curriculum Guide
At Treloar’s, we offer a wide range of courses to cater for each student's academic ability, from Entry (E) level through to Advanced (A) level.
The College delivers courses across three main strands:
1) Foundation progression routes towards Life Skills E1, E2 and Level (L) 1.
2) Foundation progression routes working towards Skills for Work and Life E2, E3 and L1.
3) Foundation progression routes for Vocational courses at E3, L1 and L2.
4) Advanced courses at Level 3/AS Level/A Level.
Foundation Learning
In addition to the accredited programmes listed above, each student has an entitlement to work related learning, community skills, independence skills, PSHE, enrichment activities as well as social and leisure experiences. All students within foundation learning follow Functional Skills programmes - English, Maths and ICT - at the appropriate level.
Advanced Learning - Treloar's and Alton College
Treloar College has a unique, successful and long-established partnership with Alton College. The College provides a comprehensive range of GSCE, Advanced Level and BTEC Vocational courses. Treloar students are provided with individual support, both within lessons and out of the classroom, by a specialised group of Treloar Teaching Assistants; often these staff have relevant subject specific qualifications. For further details of the courses available please visit www.altoncollege.ac.uk
Every student - in both foundation and advanced learning - has an individual timetable centered around their:
- Future hopes and expectations
- Interests and previous experiences
- Therapy and independence requirements
- Personal and social needs
In addition, all students entering the College have a range of assessments to assist them to select the most appropriate study pathway. Depending on the selected route, students will have learning opportunities within the classroom, externally within the community, their residential setting and in their therapy sessions.
