Treloar's alumni go for gold at games

7 November 2011

Former Treloar’s students have scooped gold at an international sporting competition.

David Smith and Dan Bentley, who both attended Treloar College, travelled to Norway at the end of last month to take part in the European individual event for Boccia at the Europa Cup.

The seven athletes on Team GB were all out to win as this was the final qualifying competition for entry into the individual Boccia competition at the London 2012 Paralympics.

Treloar’s Boccia coach, and GB Boccia Lead Coach for BC1 and BC2 Boccia, Barry Bowden, was there to witness the action.

He said: “It was an important event for those competing, and needing to improve their world ranking in the build up to London. The event was very well run by the local organising committee.”

While David and Dan were awarded gold for their efforts in BC1 and BC2 respectively, other Team GB athletes secured bronze and silver medals.

Referees at the Hamar-based contest were so impressed with David’s skills that he was given an extra commendation and named the “most talented athlete” there.
