School students act as Editorial Consultants |
|
20-Nov-2008 - [School] Some of the students who choose Book Club as a PPD activity are at intervals invited to act as Consultants for the Barrington Stoke Publishing Company. Once a manuscript is published the students receive a copy of the book with their names printed in the back as Editorial Consultants. They also receive a signed certificate in recognition of their hard work. We have already successfully reviewed two manuscripts ‘The Red Dragons of Gressingham’ by Philip Ardagh and ‘Don’t Call Us’ by Pat Thomson and have received the final print of both with the students' names printed in the back. We received a manuscript to review on our return to school following half-term, ‘The First Kill’, however the deadline was tight! We asked for volunteers to complete the task and a small group from PT agreed to review the manuscript in class with Miss Dignum. The completed reviews have now been returned to the publishing company and we shall await their decision. If the book goes to print their names will appear in the back of the book as Editorial Consultants. As a school we use a range of books published by Barrington Stoke. They produce age appropriate texts which are clear to read and are printed on a cream background. The books appeal to students who have difficulty reading and are often used in class as group readers. We hold many sets here including those we have now reviewed.
