Vision Treloar's
Working for disabled students
To celebrate our 100th birthday, Treloar’s announced a bold plan to secure our future well into our second century and to touch more young disabled lives.
Vision Treloar’s
To establish one nationally recognised centre of expertise, which is the hub of Treloar’s education and support.
A new way of working:
- An holistic approach with multi-disciplinary support
- Extending services into the community to touch more lives
- Putting individual needs at the heart of everything we do
- Championing the rights of physically disabled young people
- Encouraging independence and celebrating achievement
- Spending more on our students through financial sustainability
- Responding to changes in disability and the world around us
Vision Treloar’s takes shape
Vision Treloar’s will bring School and College together. The current School site is costly to maintain and difficult to adapt for our students’ needs. We will sell the School site and our younger students will move to College where new facilities will be built and the existing infrastructure improved.
Co-location is an economically sound and efficient way to use our resources and will provide an even better level of support to all our students.
Achieving our Vision
We are the largest non-maintained provision of our kind in the UK. Some of our funding comes from statutory sources. But we rely on charitable support to provide the specialist support that our students deserve.
Since announcing our plans, the financial landscape has changed:
- The value of the School site has reduced substantially
- Changes in government funding mean we will receive no statutory support
This means modifying our plans, and putting a greater emphasis on our fundraising. But the withdrawal of government funding means less delay and bureaucracy. We can bring our plans forward and develop a fully funded lower cost option that still delivers our vital internal and external services.
We aim to have the co-location completed by September 2011, which means that building adaptation work must begin in March 2010.
