The foundations of personal progress are the ability to communicate and underlying health and well-being of the student. As such at Treloar's we put particular focus, within our Multi-Disciplinary Approach, on the following aspects:


This is integrated into all aspects of life and learning at College and is supported by our Speech & Language Therapy Team where appropriate. The aim is to ensure that the level of understanding and expression is maximised in real-life situations throughout the day to ensure that the student is given control of their daily routine and choices. Work will be focussed on:

  • Speech/voice
  • Listening and attention
  • Receptive language
  • Expressive language
  • Social communication
  • AAC (where appropriate)
  • Remote communication

Health & wellbeing

This is about all aspects of the physical and emotional well-being of the student and permitting them to learn and live their lives in comfort. It aims to equip each person with the 'tools' they need to develop and maintain relationships, and to manage and direct what their health and care for the future. These areas will be supported by our Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams and the topics covered will include:

• Equipment and self-organisation
• Personal safety
• Awareness of Health Needs
• Awareness of Emotional Needs
• Developing and Maintaining relationships
• Sensory Skills
