The Host – Alastair Stewart OBE
Alastair has been a newscaster with the ITN network for many years which has included him presenting News at Ten, London Tonight, Police Camera Action and News at One. He has also co-anchored General Election coverage and many special programmes including State Visits and Royal Weddings. He is a patron and a wonderful advocate for Treloar’s.
Jessica joined Treloar’s as its new Chief Executive earlier this month. She has a background in business development and started her career at News International and IPC Media. A decade ago she moved into the charitable sector with leadership roles at Big Lottery Fund, Get Connected and, most recently, vInspired, where she supported and enabled young people.
Alex is a BBC News journalist and former freelancer with an MA in Newspaper Journalism from City University, London. His work for the BBC has been varied across multiple departments, specialising in arts, culture and social affairs, as well as social media strategy for the Current Affairs unit. As a wheelchair user with cerebral palsy, last year Alex released a BBC Newsbeat/Travel Show documentary on club access in the party island of Ibiza.
Mark has spent the last four years working at Westminster Abbey, organising many of their special services, including the Service of Thanksgiving for Stephen Hawking in 2018. He was Chaplain at Treloar’s between 2010 and 2014, and before that was Chaplain at Helen and Douglas House (hospices for children and young adults in Oxford). His experience working alongside young people with disabilities convinces him that there is much to be learned about what it means to be fully human.
A former Treloar’s student, David is 29 and a graduate from studying aerospace engineering at Swansea University. David competes in BC1 category for Boccia, which allows for use of an assistant for certain actions such as handing balls to the player.
David is ranked first in the world rankings, losing only once since a pool game at Rio games. Last year David became World champion for a third time and is now the reining ‘triple crown’ champion (European, World and Paralympic). Since 2005 he has medalled either individually or in a team at all but one ranking tournament, collecting a large series of gold, silver and bronze championship medals, as well as being a Two-time gold medallists in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing and the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. He also holds a Silver and Bronze medal for Team and individual events at the London 2012 games. David is the joint most successful British Boccia player in history and unbeaten nationally since 2004.
David also holds the record for being the youngest British champion – a title he achieved at the age of 14.
Anne’s child, Alessandro, attends Treloar’s College, she is a former parent governor and chair of the Parents Association and has worked in the Treloar Trust. She has an Honours Degree in Geography, a Masters Degree in Satellite Remote Sensing, and a Professional Diploma in Management. Her career has been in the scientific and informatics business linked to European Space and Scientific Institutions before moving into the charity sector. Anne has volunteered for many years as a school governor, charity trustee, in parent carer forums and in disability sports clubs both in Italy and the UK. Today Anne works as Programme Manager for an educational charity promoting STEM and business skills to students which includes specific programmes for special needs students.
