We are very proud of all our supporters who push themselves to raise money for Treloar’s, but it is wonderful when their hard work gets recognised by others. None more so than our super pair of marathon runners, Andy Guest and Olly Coulson who “wheelchaired” 26.2 miles around the Brighton Marathon last year, raising over £5,000 for Treloar’s in the process. Two weeks ago this fantastic achievement was recognised by the wider public at the East Hampshire Sports Awards ceremony. The awards (organised by East Hampshire District Council) recognise sporting achievements and the commitment of the people who make success possible, like coaches and officials and over 300 people attended on the evening.
Guest speaker at the event was Treloar Patron Roger Black MBE, one of Britain’s most successful athletes, and the evening was hosted by Fred Dinenage MBE, ITV Meridian Tonight stalwart.
Achievement at all levels and ages was recognised through the 20 categories, but we had to wait until the last category - Outstanding Personal Achievement – to see if they would win. Andy and Olly were up against stiff competition from people who had really pushed their limits too but the judges decided that Andy and Olly had worked amazingly hard and therefore awarded them joint winners of this wonderful award.
We know what superheroes they are but it was wonderful to have it recognised by the Awards too. As winners, they will now be nominated for the Hampshire County awards so we will let you know how they get one.
