On Sunday 12th July Team Treloar joined over 25,000 people and took part in the Vitality British 10k London Run.

The route ran through the heart of central London passing many of the Capital's historic landmarks such as Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus, St. James's Palace, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street along Regent Street, Charring Cross Road towards Leicester Square and the Strand before finishing at Royal Horse Guards & Banqueting House.

With such a stunning landmark-laden route and roaring crowds of spectators dotted along the way, it was understandable why the race was labelled the World’s greatest road race! There was a fantastic atmosphere and perfect weather conditions for the runners – cool and breezy with the rain holding off until the afternoon.

We were pleased to have a team of five people running in aid of Treloar’s. Two of which were Treloar’s own; Head of Physiotherapy, Susan Bryan and Jowett Centre and Events Manager, Fran Light. As regular runners (both keen members of Alton Runners) Susan and Fran completed the race in a fantastic 56 minutes and 11 seconds.Fran explained they “decided to run at training pace so that we could soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sights along the route.”

She continued, “it was the first time I’d worn a running vest with my name on it and I was pleasantly surprised by how many complete strangers enthusiastically cheered ‘Come on Susan and Fran’. It really spurred us on.”

Indeed, all of our runners were sporting the iconic - and enviable - Treloar’s green and white spotted running vest (as pictured above). Each top was specially personalised by our TEPS students to include the runners name on so the spectators could cheer them on.

Also running and raising sponsorship for Treloar's were Olivia Caplan, Lewis Davies and Ellie Lawrie. First time runner, Ellie Lawrie, said "I loved taking part in the run! I was nervous at first but the atmosphere was fantastic and I'm really pleased with the amount we raised for Treloar’s.”

“It's a brilliant organisation and I can't think of a better charity to support- if anyone wants to the 10K for Treloar’s next year I would recommend it- they were really organised and supportive. And when else do you get the chance to run with thousands of other people through central London, some of them dressed as washing machines?!”

A huge well done to all our runners! Your support and sponsorship money really does make a huge difference to the disabled young students who live and learn at Treloar’s.
