Sports, Activities and Opportunities to Enrich our Students’ Lives

At Treloar’s all our children and young people are encouraged to express themselves to the best of their ability through sport and a variety of other activities. These extra-curricular activities play an important part in the life of students at both Treloar School and College. Students explore other opportunities and last year a group of students went on a Duke of Edinburgh trip on a specially adapted canal barge to achieve their bronze level award.

Recently a group of students tried out wall climbing at the local leisure centre. Other students visited the local indoor ski slope to try mono skiing and are keen to return to do more. Sailing is a great favourite for our students with an annual School and College sailing week taking place in the Solent on a specially adapted yacht each summer. Many enjoy the freedom of being out on the water and assisting with steering, sails or navigation. Students also sail from a local sailing school at Frensham. Fast boat trips are another feature of the annual calendar and groups of our students will enjoy deep sea fishing later in the year, as well as others who will simply enjoy the speed of a fast boat experience.

Final year School students enjoy the annual outward bound residential trip in Devon. Similar to trips organised for mainstream schools our students climb, use zip wires, kayak, make bonfires, try their hand at archery and a range of other outdoor activities. This trip is hugely enjoyed and one that students look forward to year on year.

In addition to the above you will see on our achievements page the story of Ben Rushgrove, a former student who won medals at both the Beijing and London Olympics; he is just one of the former Treloar students who have enjoyed Olympic success. Dan Bentley won gold in Boccia in Beijing in 2008 and a bronze medal as part of the Team GB BC1-BC2 mixed team event with former Treloar’s student David Smith. David also won an individual boccia gold.

The Treloar’s swimming and boccia teams are strong with students attending events locally, regionally and nationally – we will report on significant achievements in our news section.
