Treloar School & College / Maths – Key Stage 4 AQA GCSE

Maths – Key Stage 4 AQA GCSE

June 2017 was the first year that the new GCSE in Mathematics was assessed. It is now graded from 1 to 9, with 4 being the equivalent of a grade C, and 7 being the equivalent of a grade A. The content has been organised into broad topic areas as follows:

  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • Geometry and measures
  • Probability
  • Statistics

Each area is then divided into a large number of sub-areas. The full specification can be downloaded from: June 2017 was the first year that the new GCSE in Mathematics was assessed. Assessment GCSE Mathematics has a Foundation tier (grades 1 – 5) and a Higher tier (grades 4 – 9). Students must take three question papers at the same tier.

Paper 1: non-calculator written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes (80 marks)
Paper 2: calculator written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes (80 marks)
Paper 3: calculator written exam: 1 hour 30 minutes (80 marks)

All content can be assessed on any of the three question papers. As such, some questions will draw together elements of maths from different topic areas.
