Well-known author of children’s literature and Treloar’s patron Dame Jacqueline Wilson DBE visited Treloar’s for the finale of the Reading Ahead Challenge - an annual celebration run by The Reading Agency to encourage people to read – which our students and staff took part in.
Dame Jacqueline’s dog Jackson accompanied her and proved to be a very special added attraction for our students. Dame Jacqueline joined students and staff in Pike Hall where she talked to students about her latest book ‘Wave Me Goodbye’ and her most famous book character, Tracy Beaker. Dame Jacqueline then read a poem entitled ‘Love’ written by the TFE (Transition of Further Education) Sixth Form students at Treloar School.
Jackson helped Dame Jacqueline hand out certificates to students who had taken part in the Reading Ahead Challenge; Dame Jacqueline then kindly stayed on to autograph many copies of her books and other memorabilia.
Dame Jacqueline expressed her genuine love of Treloar’s on her departure saying how much she enjoys it each time she visits the Treloar’s campus.
