We were very fortunate to have English writer and Treloar’s patron Dame Jacqueline Wilson visit us for the second year running last week. This visit was to celebrate the finale of Reading Ahead (formerly the Six Book challenge), an annual competition run by The Reading Agency to encourage people to read. 113 students and staff took part and Dame Jacqueline handed out certificates to those that completed the challenge.

Dame Jacqueline is very popular with Treloar’s students, many of whom asked for her to autograph copies of her books. After a visit to Treloar Nursery, Dame Jacqueline joined students and staff in Pike Hall where she read an excerpt from The Lion King, which has been performed by Treloar School students as the primary school play this term.

Treloar’s is close to Dame Jacqueline’s heart: “I visit hundreds of schools but none match the warmth and friendliness of Treloar’s. It’s a school in a million.”
