ICT Sixth Form

Rationale:

The development of ICT skills is embedded across the Sixth Form curriculum through a range of interactive tools including:

  • personalised computer set ups at individual work stations in class
  • appropriate apps/ resources on I-pads – individual support from the tech-hub
  • appropriate interactive whiteboard resources – individual/ paired/ whole group activities appropriate to level and need
  • Green screen interactive resources – sensory experiential tools
  • Dragon-dictate where appropriate to student need (assessed by MDT)
  • Read & Write Gold – to support independent application of ICT skills – Developing reading, comprehension, word prediction, proof reading skills and independent research where appropriate

All the skills standards for Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1 are assessed in each task delivered. These skills standards are assessed through the application of the coverage and range; however relevant content can also be drawn from the National Curriculum levels 1 to 3. These skills standards are derived from the process skills with reference to the differentiating factors which are detailed in the OCR Life & Living and ASDAN on-line Short Course specifications.

The skills standards for Entry Level require:

  • Contexts which are very familiar and accessible to the candidate
  • Identification of a situation or problem
  • Application of ICT which is simple, clear and routine techniques and procedures that are specific to each situation.

Students working at this level learn the ICT skills most useful to them in everyday contexts and the world of work. Students are assessed via individual tasks which have been broken into shorter more manageable activities, making them achievable and adopting a teaching approach that is enriching and engaging for students.
