Treloar Nursery

"Children...settle quickly and develop warm relationships with the staff who support them". OFSTED report, January 2018

Treloar Nursery

Treloar Nursery offers children with complex physical disabilities the opportunity to learn through play in a therapeutic environment. It is registered for children aged 2-5 years and offers small group sizes with 4-6 children in a group. Disabled children benefit from early intervention and therapy and we therefore encourage parents to consider using the Treloar Nursery in conjunction with other services. We accept Early Years Education funding, which can be shared between Treloar's and other providers.

The Nursery moved into its new building in September 2015. The facility, which was extensively remodelled, has its own entrance and waiting area and includes special features such as a sensory room with bubble tubes, a star mat and fibre optic lights and a large open plan play room with under floor heating throughout. A sunny conservatory area with roof lights creates space for the children to eat together which is then transformed into an arts and crafts area. Large windows and patio doors lead out onto a rubberised soft play surface with a shade sail and an enclosed garden for the children’s exclusive use.

Treloar Nursery embraces the Early Year’s Foundation Stage and, with individual support, enables each child to develop their skills in the following areas:

  • physical development
  • communications skills
  • engagement with their environment
  • sensory integration.

The Nursery offers daily input from specialist paediatric physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists. The onsite therapy teams and specialist staff ensure a model of multidisciplinary working and a coordinated service. Treloar's staff aim to maintain excellent communication links with parents, carers and home services to ensure a seamless approach to school and at home.

The Nursery provides support in a warm, caring environment to meet each child's individual needs. The weekly timetable is specifically designed and planned for the students and there are opportunities each term for them to enjoy trips into the local environment. Carefully crafted targets, chosen to meet individual needs, are assessed and updated on a regular basis. These targets are worked on in all situations.

A portfolio of each student's work is added to on a regular basis. More specific records of progress and achievement are also kept. A photographic Learning Journal is also compiled for each student, documenting highlights throughout the school year.

Sessions (term time only):

Tuesday - Friday 9am - 1pm

We accept Early Years Educational Funding (EYE). Treloar Nursery operates in a therapeutic environment with input from physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy into the Nursery. This input is not funded via EYE and a charge of £20 per session will be requested towards the cost of therapy. This therapy is not compulsory but little of the benefit of attending Treloar Nursery will be realised without it.
