Counselling Placements – Trainee and Associate
1.5 days per week
We are offering a fascinating and challenging placement / associate position working within a well-established counselling team. This is an opportunity to support highly complex young people with physical disability, communication difficulties, learning disabilities and emotional issues at a time of great importance as they negotiate the transition through school to further education and young adulthood.
We have four counsellors one of whom is also a qualified Play Therapist, also a music therapist and we usually have two student counsellors on placement or an associate. The team has access to GP’s for support for student mental health issues. The team liaises with the School and College Educational Psychologists, Tutors and Residential staff and with other members of the clinical Services team as appropriate.

Candidates should commit to approximately 1 – 1.5 days per week for 2 academic years, including Wednesdays for team meeting and supervision and a different day for client work.
The placement will carry a caseload building up to 5 student clients per week. They should have completed a substantial amount of training level 3 / 4 and practise in accordance with the BACP new ethical framework or equivalent.
