The Treloar’s Charity Golf Day took place on Wednesday 4 June at Old Thorns in Liphook, a beautiful par-72 course set in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Supporters joined us for a fantastic day of golf, all aiming for the winner’s trophy while helping to raise essential funds for Treloar’s students.
We were honoured to welcome David Smith OBE as the guest speaker for the afternoon. Representing Great Britain in the last five Paralympic Games, he is the most decorated British Boccia player in history, proudly earning three gold medals. As a former student of Treloar’s, he spoke about his journey from discovering his passion for Boccia to pushing himself to achieve the highest levels, and his exciting plans for the future. His talk highlighted the direct impact Treloar’s had on his life, nurturing his love for sports and laying the foundations for achieving more than he once thought possible. David’s inspiring story showed the impact that Treloar’s has on students’ lives, and attendees got to hear about some of the vital work that they are supporting by attending Treloar’s Charity Golf Day. We are thankful for David joining us for sharing his story and joining us for this event.
The day began with bacon rolls and coffee, giving players the chance to catch up, practice their putting and purchase raffle tickets. After a short briefing, golfers made their way to their starting holes and began the tournament with a 10am shotgun start—marking the beginning of a day filled with friendly competition, community spirit, and support for a wonderful cause.
Golf is as much a social game as it is a competitive one, and that was certainly true here. Teams passed each other with friendly waves and encouraging words, making sure everyone was enjoying the day. The 18-hole course at Old Thorns offered a mix of lengths and difficulties, providing a fun yet testing challenge that kept golfers focused on their game—and on keeping the ball in play.
After finishing their rounds, everyone had time to freshen up and enjoy a well-earned cold drink before sitting down to a delicious carvery dinner. To top it all off, a classic sticky toffee pudding was served for dessert, rounding off a fantastic day on the course with a meal that was just as memorable.
After a fantastic day of fun, food, and fundraising, we are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part and showed their support. Thanks to your enthusiasm, generosity, and sportsmanship, over £11,000 was raised to support Treloar’s students. Your involvement helps us continue to provide life-changing education, care, and therapy—empowering young people with complex disabilities to achieve independence and fulfil their potential.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our Headline Sponsor, Exclusive Networks, to Old Thorns for hosting us and for sponsoring the Longest Drive competition, to Finli for sponsoring Nearest to the Pin, and Biscoes Solicitors as our Prize Sponsor.
A big thank you as well to our Hole Sponsors: Alton FC, Site Equip, Oasis Electrics Ltd, and Howden. Your generous support played a key role in the success of the day, and we truly can’t thank you enough.
