Chloe, alongside her dad Tom and brothers Nicko (19) and William (15), set off from Land's End on 26 July. On 12 August, after covering more than 1,000 miles and overcoming countless challenges along the way, they reached the finish line at John O'Groats. Supporting the team every mile of the journey was Chloe's mum, Alex, who drove the support van. The family's Labrador, Koda, also joined the adventure!
The family embarked on the challenge to demonstrate what can be achieved when determination, resilience and family support come together. Throughout the journey they battled soaring temperatures, multiple punctures, eight broken spokes and crosswinds, yet remained focused on reaching their goal and raising vital funds for charity.
Chloe was born with cerebral palsy and was introduced to a specialist trike at the age of two as part of her physiotherapy. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for cycling. Over the years, she has progressed through several adapted bikes and now rides a Hase Pino tandem, enabling her to enjoy long-distance rides with her family and local cycling club, Newbury Velo.
The family have exceeded their fundraising target, raising more than £30,000 to be split across two charities close to Chloe's heart: Treloar's and PALS West Berkshire, both of which have provided support to the family over the years.
Beyond the fundraising, the family hope their achievement will raise awareness of disability inclusion, adapted sport and the life-changing impact of accessible opportunities.
Inspired by Chloe's remarkable challenge, Treloar's School, in partnership with Newbury Velo and British Cycling, will host a whole-school celebration of accessible cycling on 23 September. The Treloar’s Limitless event (inspired by British Cycling’s inclusive cycling programme, Limitless, which provides cycling opportunities for disabled people). We hope this will be an opportunity for every student to take part, creating a vibrant, whole-school celebration of cycling. It reflects our commitment to providing opportunities beyond the classroom, building confidence, wellbeing and a sense of adventure.
