Five runners took on the Great South Run in Portsmouth in support of Treloar’s, raising over £2,000 for physically disabled children and young people. Chloe, Emma, Maria, Sara and Kellie all took on the 10-mile challenge to support a cause close to their hearts.

For Maria, who regularly takes part in her local parkrun at Southsea, the Great South Run was the perfect opportunity to combine her love of running with supporting Treloar’s.

“The day itself was fantastic. The atmosphere was incredible from start to finish, with so much entertainment, encouragement and support along the route,” Maria said. “Being part of Team Treloar’s made it even more special.”

Sara took on the challenge to push herself further than ever before, having never run more than 12km previously.

“I wanted to challenge myself while raising money for a charity that I am proud to support every day through my work at Treloar’s as a nurse,” she explained.

After crossing the finish line, Sara was full of enthusiasm for the experience.

“I loved every minute of it. The atmosphere was fantastic, and crossing the finish line after 10 miles felt amazing. My legs were slightly sore but I was feeling great!”

Running for a cause that matters

For the team, the challenge was about more than the miles. Together, they raised over £2,000 to help make a difference to the lives of Treloar's students.

Chloe knows first hand the impact fundraising can have on students and their families.

“Supporting Treloar’s means so much. I’ve seen first-hand how fundraising can make a difference to the lives of physically disabled children and young adults at Treloar’s. From a child finding their voice for the first time, to a young adult gaining the independence and confidence to visit town with their friends, it’s such a privilege to contribute to their journeys.”

Maria echoed this sentiment, highlighting how taking part in events can help raise awareness of the incredible achievements of Treloar’s students.

“Every day I am inspired by our students, their determination and achievements. Supporting Treloar’s through events like this helps to raise awareness of the incredible work that takes place here and our amazing students.”

As a nurse at Treloar’s, Sara sees the importance of providing opportunities for young people to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

“It means helping to create opportunities for young people with complex disabilities to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.”
