This year, Rachel Mason, Treloar's Art Therapist, has offered college leavers the opportunity to explore their transition creatively with 2 informal art sessions towards the end of term

The role of counselling and therapy in the transition process

Counselling and therapy has an important role in helping students navigate transitions. This includes processing changes, moving on from familiar routines and relationships, and preparing for the new challenges that lay ahead.

Art-making in particular offers a unique way to honour transition, offering non-verbal ways of exploring a time marked by hope, loss, and change. The sessions were a welcoming space where students connected with their peers and explored various creative processes. Rachel hopes to further develop these sessions for leavers next year.

The privacy and confidentiality of the space means that no photos were taken throughout the sessions. The photo is an example made by Rachel.
