Game on: KS4 hosts eSports tournament

As part of their summer term project, our Key Stage 4 eSports students independently planned, organised and led an eSports tournament for Treloar’s students and staff.

Building on what they learned from a tournament held during the spring term, the students reflected on their previous event and identified ways to make this one even more successful. They selected the game Golf It! because of its accessibility and appeal to players of all abilities.

This time, students were challenged to think more broadly about the logistics of running an event. They considered how participants would be welcomed and recognised for taking part, as well as what would be needed to keep the organising team motivated throughout the day. The students designed and distributed custom stickers for all participants, worked with the catering team to provide a refreshments station, created a lively background music playlist, set up a live leader board so everyone could follow the scores, and ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

The tournament was a great success, with students and staff enjoying the friendly competition and seeing their names climb the leader board. During Friday assembly, the eSports students presented medals to the top three student and staff competitors. The winning student also received a custom trophy designed and 3D-printed by the eSports students themselves.

The project provided a valuable opportunity for students to develop their teamwork, organisation, problem-solving and leadership skills while delivering an enjoyable event for the wider Treloar’s community.

This was the first year that eSports was offered as a Key Stage 4 option at Treloar’s, introduced in response to student voice. Following a successful first year, we are pleased that a new group of Key Stage 4 students have selected eSports as one of their option choices for next year.
