Thanks to valuable support from East Hampshire Councillors, we have been able to purchase a Baffin Simon specialist car seat. This will be used by primary school students to enable them to access the wider community for educational purposes as well as for leisure activities. Not only are trips fun, they are also vital for learning essential life skills and extending enriched learning beyond the classroom.
Thank you to Cllr Graham Hill, Cllr Elizabeth Marshall, Cllr Emily Young, Cllr Suzie Burns, and Cllr Barbara Tansey from East Hampshire District Council for contributing a total of £3,300 from their Councillor Grants.
Current safety guidance recommends that children weighing under 22kg travel in an appropriate 5-point harness car seat rather than in a wheelchair. However, standard child car seats often do not provide the level of postural support required by many of our students, making it challenging to ensure their safety and comfort during transport.
After assessing different seats our Occupational Therapy department chose the Baffin seat as it is the most appropriate and adaptable for the wide needs of our students. The Simon car seat was specifically designed, so that every child using it can feel safe and comfortable and take the most comfortable position during the journey.
