Treloar’s 2020 Appeal
Creating an amazing new Outdoor Learning space for our students – Phase One Update!
We are pleased to say that, thanks to your support and despite some delays during the pandemic, we are well underway to completing all of the works on the Sensory Garden and the Greenhouse refurbishment for Treloar’s wonderful new Outdoor Learning Centre. There are a final few works and finishing touches which will take place during October and early November and then our students will be able to start using the new Centre and these fabulous facilities from December for both educational and leisure activities.
The work on the accessible toilet has also been completed meaning that our students will now have appropriate toileting and changing facilities when they use the Centre. These new facilities will be hugely helpful for students enabling them to enjoy even more time in the Centre when they visit.
We are sorry to say that the walkway from School/College planned in Phase 1 has been somewhat delayed with the current situation but we hope that work on this will start in the Spring of 2021. However, the new pathway has been installed outside the Outdoor Learning Centre which has enabled the expansion of the boundary of the Centre to allow our students even more space for learning.
The Greenhouse has undergone a complete refurbishment of the electrical works together with installations of a new heater and sun canopy. This means that the temperature can be better regulated and allow our students to use the greenhouse all year round. A section of the greenhouse is now home to a small animal run and petting area so our students can learn about animal care. The doors to the Greenhouse have also been made accessible—they are now electric and will operate by sensors or through the use of a push button. This will allow our students to access the greenhouse without support and provide them with an enhanced level of independence.
The Fundraising Challenge – Phase 2
We have been continuing our fundraising efforts towards Phase 2, which includes the classroom extension and we are thrilled to say that we have secured £193,000 of the amount required. Our aim is to raise the remaining £149,000 over the next six months with the expectation of work starting mid-2021. Any support you can provide towards this would be hugely appreciative.
