“How do you prepare students for life beyond Treloar’s?”
It’s a question we often get and truthfully – everyone is different and so we take a tailored approach to each student. But whatever their goal, we work hard with our students to support them develop the skills to achieve their aims.
Through our work experience programme we aim to give students personalised experiences and the knowledge, skills and planning tools which will enable them to make informed decisions and choices about future, paid, voluntary, or supported employment.
Meet Gee
Gee, is a great example of the hard work our students put in to achieving their future goals. She completed a work experience placement in a classroom.
Gee was put to the task during work experience as an SSA. For eight weeks she supported our Primary class helping her to realise her ambition to become a teacher, or student support assistant (SSA) – just like we have here at Treloar’s. Gee said;
I’m really enjoying my work experience because I like being with the children. With this experience I’m learning what is the real role of being an SSA and I like to learn how they feel and how patient they must be. I’ve also realised that I want to become a teacher or a SSA in the future so I could work with children all the time.
Katherine was delighted with her progress too she said; “I would like to say a big “thank you” to Gee for being an inspiration to the children in class 1P. Gee has been supporting the children at play time and also in the classroom.
“Gee has been an outstanding role model for the children demonstrating a positive attitude at all times. The children often remember when Gee will be coming in and look forward to seeing her.
“Gee has engaged with the children through a range of play activities such as cheerleading, gardening, pretend shopping and café, as well as supporting children with their topic work. Gee is amazing in the classroom completing any tasks set.
“She has attended to the class rabbits needs, laminated resources, cleaned toys, tidied up and prepared work to be filed.
“Gee always portrays a ‘can do’ attitude and works very hard to make sure she completes tasks to the highest standards. We have all really enjoyed having Gee with us.”
We’re delighted to see Gee thrive in the classroom and can’t wait to see what she, and others achieve this term.
