Make a difference by volunteering for Treloar’s!
As well as the 800 staff we employ we also have a lively and active team of volunteers who support Treloar’s in many ways – from helping a student to learn to read, to serving drinks at fundraising events to partaking in wheelchair dance. Volunteers also assist in the science classroom, and take students on twilight walks. Our volunteer roles are varied, flexible and fun!
What have our volunteers got out of volunteering over the last year, and how has Treloar’s benefitted? Here are some examples:
- Steve took redundancy from a role as a warehouse manager and had a number of years work experience in various roles such as in retail and cleaning. He was looking for a change and began volunteering one day a week in the Treloar’s PE team and a College classroom. He found he had a natural ability to build rapport with the young people, enjoyed the role, and was successful in securing a new paid role as a Student Support Assistant at Treloar’s.
- Alfie did some work experience at Treloar’s whilst attending secondary school and found he really enjoyed helping to enable disabled young people to take part in sport. He continued to help out at Treloar’s as a volunteer when he started at college studying A-levels, supporting students to take part in sports such as boccia, rounders, table cricket and athletics. The PE team were so grateful for his support they nominated Alfie for a Treloar’s Volunteer of the Year Award. Alfie’s volunteering experience has helped him in his successful application for university.
- Lyn retired from an administrative career and wanted to make use of her new spare time by being involved with the local community, but still having flexibility to enjoy retirement. She found a role with Treloar’s, originally helping in the swimming pool. She now comes in once a week to help entertain the primary school-aged children during their lunch break, assisting them to take part in activities, and says she loves being a part of Treloar’s.
Whether you are a student looking to gain experience for your CV, are retired looking for an opportunity to be involved in the community, or just wanting to test the waters for a change of career, a volunteering role at Treloar’s could be the perfect fit! We will provide the guidance and roles, all we ask of you is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
