Science
The Science curriculum offers students the opportunity to be curious and inquisitive about the world we live in, exploring how things work and foster an understanding behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. By studying independently and in collaboration with others, students will have opportunities to develop their communication skills, resilience and well-being. Opportunities to explore the habitats found on site such as the pond and sensory garden will help to develop their self-awareness and knowledge of the wider world. By studying the structure of matter, learning about atoms and elements, and the way they behave in classroom experiments, students will be able to build on their understanding of the world around us. Finding out about some of the fundamental processes of life, such as photosynthesis in plants where the Sun’s energy is used to make food, will develop their sense of wonder and appreciation of nature.
Through the teaching and learning of Science students will have an opportunity to use their imagination and develop their confidence to ask more questions: Why? What? How? The ability to apply these questions to any topic is transferable throughout the curriculum. Their knowledge of Science will help them make sense of some of the most challenging aspects of today’s world, and most significantly, how humans can develop strategies to protect and look after the world we live in, as well as the other organisms that inhabit it. Throughout the programmes of study, Science will encourage students to think critically and communicate their opinions and interests, key skills for studying in school and beyond.
