Young Entrepreneurs in action
Treloar College students raised over £200 at pop-up business event
Two of our Treloar College classes, following the Employability & Independence pathways have now completed the Speed You Up Young Entrepreneur Programme with WSX Enterprise. This Programme included 6 training sessions, focusing on:
• Entrepreneurship
• Skills in Self employment
• Self-employment an overview
• Business ideas
• Community and market research
• Business Planning
The final challenge for our students was to organize a Business Pop-Up event, using all the skills they have developed as part of the programme. Students ran the event and were proud to show off their new found skills in self employment and entrepreneurship. The students created a Treloar recipe book, sold tickets to a live music event they are planning, as well as tickets for a film night.
The Speed You Up Young Entrepreneur Programme includes all the skills needed to support self-employment. The sessions have helped students to generate business ideas and write a business plan, while also encouraging them to make the right employability choices and offered them a space for reflection.
Three members of our transition team have agreed to become the Speed You Up Coaches. They will deliver the training on behalf of the Project in the future. This will allow the Programme’s continuity and longevity.
Thank you to Adriana Crear from WSX Enterprise for introducing the Programme to Treloar College.
The Business Pop-up event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase all they’ve learnt throughout the course. We are super proud of our students and of all that they have achieved.
At the end of the event, when the final numbers came in, students had made in excess of £200 profit from their enterprising business ideas. All of which they have decided to donate to the Ukraine appeal.
The Speed You Up Young Entrepreneur Programme supports our mission to enable physically disabled young people to achieve their aspirations by supporting transition into adulthood and promoting independence and inclusion.
Treloar’s are committed to supporting our students with skills for independent living and tailored development to prepare them for their lives after Treloar’s, as we believe that everyone deserves an equal start to adulthood and employment.
