Student Life

School

Whether students are boarders or day students life outside the classroom is an important element of their time at the School. As a specialist school for disabled students, we have fully adapted facilities and equipment to enable students to take part in a wide variety of activities both on and off campus. There is always something going on for students to enjoy, from sports and social clubs to shopping outings, discos, sports clubs, games evenings and cinema nights. Equally, if students want to relax there is plenty of space, both inside and outside, for them to meet with friends or to have time alone.

College

A majority of College students are residents during the week, some may go home at the weekends whilst others stay with us for up to 52 weeks a year. There are numerous activities provided for students during evenings. At weekends, if students wish to participate there are some planned activities but students are also supported to plan their own activities and they are free to have some quiet time to simply relax.

Students have use of the Chill Out Zone for a wide range of activities and a bar is also provided. There are numerous clubs and opportunities to get out and about for activities such as sailing, kayaking, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, shopping, sports matches and cinema trips. As we have our own vehicles we can work with the students to ensure that, if public transport is not suitable, they can get to the activities they wish to attend.

So whether on or off campus there are always things happening should students wish to get involved.

"The I can do attitude means that any potential barriers are overcome and no activity is seen as impossible or not accessible. Students are offered a wide variety of exciting and enriching activities, which provide challenge while developing resilience, self-confidence and a sense of achievement and joy....One student said, 'Before I came here, I only expected able-bodied people to be able to do those things. I surpassed the barrier and I have officially stepped out of my comfort zone.'"
