David Smith MBE, Paralympian and Patron of Treloar’s receives OBE
The students and staff at Treloar’s could not be prouder about the news that our Patron, David Smith MBE received an OBE in the New Year’s Honors list 2022 for his services to the game Boccia.
David, a former student of Treloar’s is now Britain’s most decorated Boccia player of all time. His individual BC1 gold in Tokyo was his second consecutive title in the event and his fifth Paralympic medal overall. David is ranked first in the world rankings.
In 2018, David became World champion for the third time and is still the reining ‘triple crown’ champion (European, World and Paralympic). Since 2005 he has medalled either individually or in a team at all but two ranking tournaments, collecting a large series of gold, silver and bronze championship medals, as well as being a Team gold medallist in the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing he is an individual Gold medallist from the 2016 Paralympics in Rio. He also holds a Silver and Bronze medal for the individual and team events at the London 2012 games.
David says;
“I’m so delighted to have received an OBE as part of the New Years Honours list. The last few years have been eventful and I am very grateful for the support I have received from my family, friends and colleagues. Whilst this is a brilliant end to my Tokyo experience, this is just the beginning for me and I am very excited to make even more progress in my life.”
