Giving Tuesday: Marathon runners
On Giving Tuesday, we can’t forget about those who supported Treloar’s in the London Marathon in October! Thank you for choosing us as your Charity of Choice in the marathon; preparing and taking part in a marathon is not an easy task, but it is all worth it when it is all for a good cause – to help support a charity, and in this case, help support our students here at Treloar School and College.
Two of our London Marathon 2022 runners told us how they felt about taking on the mammoth 26.2miles for Treloar’s.
Gwilym Eades, TCS London Marathon Runner 2022
I found it incredibly motivating and meaningful to be running for Treloar’s. It meant I was running not just for myself but for others, and in support of students with very specific needs. As an educator and as a runner, on both levels, this was an exceptional run, not just for myself. I connected at one point with another Treloar’s runner, and we had a brief chat on the route (‘great shirt, great work’, an exchange of cheers with one another). Having the Treloar’s shirt was the best, because people yelled out my name, and then as I went past, they could see Treloar’s on the back. All of this made it the best race I’ve ever run!
Ashley Goncalves, Virtual London Marathon 2020 and TCS London Marathon 2022
The day was incredible! It was a culmination of many months of training and made all the long, lonely hours through the heatwaves this summer worth it! I’ll never forget the experience of the many people shouting my name and commenting along the way about “looking good in spots”; it seems almost mad to say but something so simple as the vest that was printed with my name by Treloar’s students really made the difference for me – it was a reminder every time my name was called (which I never quite got used to), the reason I was running, so to the students involved I’d like to say a massive thank you!
Ashley was originally due to take part in the London Marathon in 2020, which was sadly cancelled due to the pandemic. Instead, he took part in a virtual version, and set his sights on doing the official London Marathon when it next came round. When the opportunity came to take part in 2022, he was over the moon! Ashley commented:
Everything I’ve heard, read and watched regarding Treloar’s made it a no brainer to run on their behalf again this year. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! I loved every second: the event, the crowd, even the last 0.2 miles! On top of all of that, I’ve also managed to achieve my personal goal too which was getting a Good for Age qualifying time finishing in 02:49:54… maybe even London again next year if I’m mad enough!
This Giving Tuesday we would like to say just how much we appreciate those that take on the London Marathon in support of Treloar’s. We are incredibly grateful of your support, and even more so especially grateful of the lengths you put your bodies through to get over that finish line to raise vital funds for our students.
Take on the London Marathon 2023, or a similar running challenge!
Our amazing fundraisers make a real difference to the lives of the young people here at Treloar’s.
