Jasper’s new Tomcat Trike
IMPact Committee has funded a new Tomcat Trike for a former Treloar School student, Jasper. Tomcat trikes provide mobility to those of all ages struggling with physical, sensory or learning difficulties.
Now Jasper can enjoy riding it at his new care home nearly every day. Riding the trike is brilliant for stimulating Jasper’s facilitated walking and general mobility; it encourages carers to get him into the outside fresh air every day and, most of all, Jasper just loves it. Jasper’s mum, Lisa, said:
I had not realised just how much Jasper’s cycling had improved during his three years at Treloar’s. Due to the pandemic, I had not been able to take him out on his trike there since early 2020. So I had a brilliant surprise the first time I took him out on the bike at his new home! As Bryony had told me, he’s really great at it now, being able to push through the pedals to mostly self-propel once he’s had his momentum started. I am sure with this new, larger (he grew!) and more posturally appropriate cycle he will just get better and better! Finally, I need to add that having your support for the new trike come through when all was looking quite grim with plans for Jasper’s onward placement, it provided a much-needed ray of light in a difficult time. I thank you again from our family and from Jasper. Your award of the trike will certainly have a big impact on his future life and continued physical and social development.
About IMPact
IMPact is open to all of our 169 students who are actively encouraged to formally apply for the opportunity to secure funding towards obtaining the most suitable wheelchair, mobility and independence equipment for their needs. IMPact has a committee which meets termly to consider individual applications. Grants are awarded to as many students as possible, but not usually for the full amount, as parents and students often make some contribution towards the cost of the new equipment in order to take ownership and responsibility for its upkeep.
