New key worker accommodation building takes shape
Student Governor Oscar visited the key worker accommodation building, to check progress on the project to provide affordable living accommodation for Treloar’s staff.
Work is progressing well on Treloar’s new key worker accommodation building. Site Manager, Tony from Sandy Lane Projects, showed our Student Governor, Oscar and Facilities Manager, Chloe round the building site. All the major groundworks are complete, including improvements to the drainage around the campus.
The first building is taking shape and will soon have roof tiles in place by February. It will have eight en-suite bedrooms and shared living spaces. The building will be powered by an air source heat pump and solar panels. When both buildings are complete, Treloar’s will be able to offer affordable accommodation for 42 members of staff, (40 rooms for 42 staff including 2 doubles) ensuring that we can provide the round the clock care our students need.
Many of the young people at Treloar’s require support throughout the day and night – over half of our students stay in one of our residential houses.
We are open 52 weeks a year and right now, around the clock, we are delivering outstanding nursing care, therapy, independence training and education to around 180 disabled children and young people aged 2-25.
The building is essential for Treloar’s to be able to attract staff into the area and offer them affordable accommodation, which is vital to ensure that we can continue to look after our students. If all goes to plan, the first staff will be moving in October 2022.
