New study topics for School students
Every term, Primary School and KS3 teachers launch a new topic for their lessons. Introducing new topics at the start of each term provides breadth and balance to student learning. Periklis Karachalias, Leader of Learning for Primary School at Treloar’s, said
The introduction of a new topic to students creates anticipation; it motivates them and makes them more curious.
KS3 topic: Around the world in 80 days
The current KS3 topic is based around the book “Around the world in 80 days” by Jules Verne. Especially for the launch, Treloar’s Tech Hub was transformed into a holiday haven full of activities that link to travelling the world.
Upon arrival at the Tech Hub, students received a boarding pass and a personalised passport that they will be using to collect stamps as they will travel to each destination over the term. Students are planning to visit the UK, Egypt, India, China among others.
During the launch, students had an opportunity to complete a Kahoot! quiz, explore coding to manoeuvre Dash the Robot around the airport, experience a flight simulator in the pop up tent, activate a range of images on the Touch and Tilt interactive screen using the Switch It Jigsaw programme, use the green screen to create their own images of being at the airport, use the iSand to explore a range of places such as the desert in Egypt and then all watched some amazing musical talent performances from the students when they were activating the BeamZ sound beam to explore instruments from all around the world to create their own piece of music.
Primary term topic ‘Light it Up’
This term, Treloar’s Primary students are learning all about light; during their topic launch, all students took part in various activities – all linking to the use of light and its different sources. But that’s not all, this autumn, apart from light-related topics, Primary classes will be gaining more knowledge and understanding of the world and the theme ‘All about me’. They will be reading and discussing various texts, including What makes me a me? by Ben Faulks, A lighthouse story by Holly James and The game of light by Herve Tullet among many others.
Topics linked to the theme of light, such as Diwali, Guy Fawkes, Bonfire night and Christmas will be also covered this term in lessons.
