Paralympic Patrons
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics gets under way today and we’ll be cheering on the GB squad.
Three team members are particularly special to us here. Suzanna Hext and David Smith MBE who we are proud to call Patrons of Treloar’s and Ali Smith a former colleague, who swapped her Treloar’s lanyard for running shoes to pursue her Paralympic career.
These athletes are flying the flag for disabled people, and proving that dreams can come true.
Boccia player David is a former Treloar student and will be competing in his fourth Paralympic Games. He is also the defending world and Paralympic champion!
Suzanna overcame life-changing injuries in 2012 to become a triple gold medal-winning Paralympic dressage rider and will compete in the Paralympic swimming team this year.
David said: “I hope we can inspire the next generation to start playing and dream of a brighter future.”
We’re wishing them the best of luck for their Paralympic campaigns.
Treloar’s CEO Ryan Campbell says: “an important part of what we do at Treloar’s is to show the positive achievements of disabled people and these two amazing Patrons continually inspire and motivate our students. We can’t thank them enough for their support and everyone at Treloar’s is extremely proud of them.”
We’d also like to wish our former colleague Ali Smith a huge good luck who is competing in the Paralympic Athletics team.
Fingers and toes crossed for them all!
