Patrick beats his London Marathon record and raises £1,700
Huge congratulations to Patrick Asher-Relf, our Student Support Assistant who beat his London Marathon record at the weekend and finished the race in 3hrs 50mins – 65 minutes less than last year, raising £1,700! This is an amazing achievement and we are so proud of Patrick as he worked and trained so hard for, and it’s all to raise money for Treloar’s.
Patrick said:
I started training for this one about four months ago. I was training about four/five times a week, without any changes to my diet; I have a fast metabolism and with all the extra training I could eat what I wanted within reason.
For the marathon, Patrick used his everyday wheelchair, but the castors were a bit further forward and all welded so no parts could come off. Thanks to those changes, Patrick was able to get to his top speed faster, and with the castors further forward, it made it more streamlined.
To the question whether he would recommend anyone participating in a marathon, Patrick responded:
I would definitely recommend anyone taking part in the marathon. It’s a good challenge: mentally and physically.
Having done the London marathon consecutively for three years in a row, Patrick said he needs a bit of a break from training now as it takes a lot of dedication and it’s a big ask for someone who has done it three times in a row, but he is sure he will take part again in the future.
