Prom season at Treloar’s
It’s the end of term and prom season is upon us.
The Treloar School and College proms are the highlight in every student’s calendar, and at Treloar’s everyone pulls together to ensure that our students have the same milestone experience as their peer group. Staff from all across campus including catering, therapy, dietitians, the support assistants in the residential houses, and the teaching staff all come together to support the event and ensure that every student looks their best and can enjoy their evening. Student committees are involved in the planning process and choose the menus, decorations and entertainment options.
School prom
The School prom began with mocktails in the piazza—a chance for all the students to assemble, enjoying the evening sunshine, and have photos taken with their friends. Music was provided by Treloar College student and aspiring DJ, Joe.
The School students chose a black and white theme for their prom which extended through their choice of outfits and continued into the balloons and table decorations for the Florence Treloar Hall. Their menu choice was an American buffet, with mini burgers, mini hot dogs, onion rings and curly fries followed by waffles and ice cream.
During the evening students were invited to vote for their Prom King and Queen, won by Sophie and Laurie. There were also awards for the best dressed students, Carmen and Ryan. The happiest student was won by Ella, and the funniest student was Jasper.
The evening entertainment concluded with a disco with guest DJ tutor Lisa Cull, and the highlight was a whole school conga round the hall.
College prom
The College prom took place the week before the School prom. Again, students gathered on a beautiful summer evening in the piazza to enjoy drinks served by Head of College Ben Bastin and Director of Finance and Resources Simon Birch.
For their evening meal College students chose a roast chicken dinner, followed by a trio of desserts: chocolate cake, fruit meringue and ice cream cup.
Their student awards for best dressed students went to Will and Sophie. The Prom King and Queen were Luke and Emilie, voted for by all the students in attendance on the evening. Emilie had a lovely evening allowing all her friends to try on her tiara. Luke said: “I’ve enjoyed every single day at Treloar’s, and I’m leaving on a high because my friends voted for me.”
The evening closed with a DJ set from a College student Joe in the Chill Out Zone.
Thank you to all the staff who pulled together to make these important events so special, creating memories to cherish as students make their next steps beyond Treloar’s.
