Results of Leucine Study are in!

October 23, 2018 / 10:02 am

The results of a study recently conducted at Treloar’s by the University of Gloucester and Treloar’s dietitians have now been made available. The study looked at whether supplementing young adults and adolescents, who have cerebral palsy, with leucine ( a naturally occurring amino acid) would have positive effects. It was found that the students who received the leucine had significant increases in muscle mass and strength with a decrease in muscle inflammation. Perceptions of muscle soreness and stress were significantly reduced and feelings of good mood and general well-being were increased.

This is the first study of this kind to be conducted in this population and further studies are being planned to continue taking this forward. Treloar’s are very excited to have been involved in this groundbreaking research.
