School Arts Week ‘sparks our imagination and creativity’
For School Arts Week staff and students from across the school and college came together to enjoy an amazing timetable of over 16 different themed workshops.
Arts week is an example of a truly collaborative project, run by the school and college art department. Creative staff and college arts, photography & media students shared their skills and knowledge with school students through the running of an exciting School’s Arts Week.
College Vocational Arts students provided interactive workshops for school students in a range of artistic practices; such as animation, cyanotype printing, painting, graffiti, photogram printing, clay working, weaving, self portraits, transient art, and many more.
With support from external dance company ’The Flamingo Chicks’, and other keen creative staff invited to volunteer and share their skills, school students were able to learn artistic techniques and create their own works of art. Hands-on tasks provided school students with a glimpse into the college creative subjects, and explored the benefits of the arts on their wellbeing and self-esteem.
Activities were designed to offer students the opportunity to express their individual creativity, independence, resilience, and self-awareness. Whilst providing them with the fundamental skills, techniques and knowledge needed to create both unique and collaborative pieces of art or craft.
But mostly the week was about having fun, trying new activities, and creating some great art works. Leon said he enjoyed the week because ‘it sparks our imagination and creativity’.
Kabir enjoyed the weaving workshop and created orange hair braids. He also enjoyed creating a photo self-portrait and choosing coloured paper for a collage project. The week culminated in a whole school assembly where the students enjoyed seeing all their creative work displayed in a slide show, and joined in with an art challenge to recreate famous works of art.
There are so many beautiful arts work on display around campus, we’re spoilt for choice for which pictures to include here!
